Safe Exercises for Women in the Third Trimester of Pregnancy

Women are encouraged to work out safely during pregnancy as it can be very beneficial to both mother and child. It can help improve mood, ease pains that come with the later stages of pregnancy and can even help control weight. Of course, all pregnant women should consult a doctor before undertaking any exercise, especially during the third trimester. Here are our top three safe exercises women should consider during a consultation with their doctor…

  1. Walking is known as one of the most beneficial forms of exercise for pregnant women. Jogging can also be undertaken if some women are looking for more of a challenge too. It must be recognised that pregnancy is the wrong time to start a vigorous running routine- however women who were regularly running before and up to 27 weeks of pregnancy should be safe to continue at a light intensity unless they suffer from any discomfort.
  2. Swimming or Aqua sports are perfect for women in the later months of pregnancy because we tend to feel weightless in the water and women who are carrying the extra weight of a child may enjoy this feeling. Swimming is also a full body exercise that can be therapeutic.
  3. Yoga is a low impact form of exercise which can be adapted specifically for the third trimester. It targets the major muscle groups, helping women feel fit and prepared for birth.

Here at The Healthy Living and Fitness, we think that there is always an opportunity to stay fit, even during the later stages of pregnancy. Always remember to consult a doctor before beginning a new exercise regime during pregnancy.
